Update on
Michael (2/20/12) - It's been almost 2 weeks since Michael has been at Care Partners. He no longer has a trach in. Also he got his staples out of the incision spot on his head where he had his surgery. He's not constantly talking yet, but he is communicating more and more everyday. I finally heard his voic
e a couple of times! It's pretty soft and it's actually kind of exhausting to him to use his voice. His speech therapist is using some sort of electrodes on his neck area to help the muscles in his throat. This will help him with swallowing and talking. So when he doesn't use his voice he will nod and sometimes write or type something out. He's not consistently communicating yet but like I said, more and more everyday. Sometimes you will ask him something and he won't answer or be paying any attention to you because he's pretty easily distracted by things and noises. He kinda wanders off in a trance. This will get better as his brain heals. Michael is still being fed and giving meds through the peg tube in his stomach. He has eaten some ice chips and a little bit of pudding. And today he ate a small container of applesauce all by himself. Hopefully in the next day or so his speech therapist will have Michael take a swallow test. The will take an x-ray while he eats something and it will show that it's going down his esophagus like it's supposed to. That way he can start eating solid foods again eventually. He's building up his strenght and helping the nurses and therapists with getting dressed and moving from his bed to his wheelchair and vice versa. They work him so hard in physical therapy. With her help and support his physical therapist had him walking around the room pushing a shopping cart while she stood behind him spotting him. A couple days ago she helped him stand up in between they parallel bars and grab some tools laying on the table next to him. One of them was a wrench which he proceded to pick up and started trying to take the parallel bars apart! I see some of his old good habits coming back here and there! The therapists incorporate Noah and I in his therapy treatments. I think having us around all the time really helps him. I'm so excited and encouraged by his improvements everyday! It seems more like hour by hour improvements instead of day by day improvements! We love you all and are appreciate your words of encouragement and prayers!! Glad you're still thinking of Michael and praying for him!! It's really paying off! God is good!

â??2/16/2012 Update: Michael got his trach out on Monday. He is speaking a little more- short sentences. Like "My name is Michael" and some single words. He also got his staples and stitches taken out.
He has used the bathroom on his own some. He stood for 10 minutes with a break in the middle where he held onto parallel bard and someone kept his knees from buckling. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers!

â??2/12/12 update: Michael is making progress! The past two days Michael has been writing on a white board a word that no one could make out. Reuben, Michael's brother, finally gave Michael a laptop and asked him to type out the word. Michael typed "TRY BATHROOM!". So the nurses took him to the bathroom and he went! Michael still is not talking very much- Cortney feels this is because he still has the trach in. He is breathing on his own- and not drooling at all (which is a great sign!). Please continue to keep the Jacques in your thoughts.
Noah, Michael and Cortney's 4-month old son, has been sick the past couple of days. Hopefully he will feel better soon so that they can go visit Michael!

Update on Michael: Michael spoke for the first time today! The therapist at Care Partners asked him where he lived and he responded "downtown hendersonville"! Michael's mom also asked him if he remembered Cortney and Noah and he replied "yep"! YAY

Update on Michael (2/9/12) - We got Michael settled in to Care Partners today. I must say it's nice to see him without all the electrodes and such hooked up to him. He still has the trach for breathing (not for much longer hopefully), and the peg tube for feeding. He still has C. Diff, but I was able to take Noah into his room to see him. Today was the 1st day they've seen each other since Michael's aneurysm ruptured (almost a whole month). Michael smiled a little when he saw him. Tomorrow will be his first day of theapy. He will be recieving physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy to name a few. I'm very excited for him, and we are encouraged to attend his therapies most of the time. They may even find a way to incorporate Noah. I'm excited to see what tomorrow will bring! Thanks for the prayers, thoughts, and positive messages! Keep 'em comin! :) â?¥

Update on Michael (2/8/12) - You all may have heard about Michael being sent to Care Partners today. Well we have small set back. This morning the nurses found a spot on his leg that is more than likely blood clot so they had to cancel the appointment for Care Partners. So now they will have to give Michael some blood thinners and see how things go overnite and hopefully they will be able to transfer him tomorrow. Let's hope so!!! On the brighter side of things. He's been out of ICU for over a week now and is making improvements everyday. He seems to be more and more aware everyday and slightly moving more parts of his body little by little. His brotherReuben stayed with him last nite, and told me this morning that it appeared that he was trying to talk! He can't talk as long as he has the trach in, but they have been weening him off of it and the nurses have talked about taking it out this week sometime. Once it's about he will be capable of talking again. I just can't wait to hear his voice. I haven't heard it in a month.... him and Noah haven't seen each other in a month! A lot happen in a baby's life in a month. Reuben, mom, and I have been taking lots of pictures and videos to fill him in! Please keep praying for or keeping Michael in your thoughts. You are are great and help ease these hard times!!!! And to those of you sending personal messages to me on here and posting on my wall... I do read each and everyone of your messages so even though I haven't responded doesn't mean I'm ignoring you all it's just so hard to find the time. Not to mention Noah starts to get jealous if I'm not paying him any attention after about 5 minutes ;). I will get around to responding...I promise!!! Thanks again everyone!

Update on Michael (2/1/12) - He is still swelling up a little more from the surgery. His right eye is swollen shut right now, but he is looking around with the left eye and still seems to be reacting alright. Still running a slight fever and his heart rate is up kinda high from "storming." The storming is off and on and not all the time. They just now moved him from ICU to a room! We just watched the nurse wheel his bed by us in the waiting room. Now we don't have to be on restricted visiting hours! What a blessing! We just got the ok from the nurse to go see him!
